Calling all foodies. The starting of the brand new yr is coming.
To kick it off, The Straits Times meals web site, straitstimesfood.com, generally known as ST Food, would love you to publish images of your first meal of the yr on Instagram.
Snap a photograph, publish it, say a bit about it and use the hashtags #firstmeal2018 and #stfoodtrending.
Remember to tag and point out @straitstimesfood in your publish too.
Ms Sumiko Tan, managing editor of Singapore Press Holdings’ English/Malay/Tamil Media Group and ST’s government editor, remembers seeing a Facebook publish from Life editor Tan Hsueh Yun on Jan 1 this yr, exhibiting her first meal of the yr.
The dishes included a mini rooster pot pie lined with golden brown puff pastry, plump clams in a fennel cream sauce, and a kale and roasted banana shallot tart from now-defunct restaurant Cocotte.
On encouraging readers to publish images of their meals on Instagram, Ms Sumiko Tan says: “I believed to myself then that it will be so enjoyable if extra folks posted their first meal and for ST to compile them.
“So, I’ve waited one year to get this idea going.”
Readers can look out for #firstmeal2018 posts from Olympic swimmer and medallist Joseph Schooling (@josephschooling), paralympic swimmer and medallist Theresa Goh (@wheelie_wonka), Wild Rocket’s chef-owner Willin Low (@willcookwilleat), and hotelier-restaurateur Loh Lik Peng (@pengloh).
ST Food options movies and tales from ST and her sister publications, in addition to recipes and articles from worldwide and regional publications. There can be a social media part that showcases Instagram posts with the hashtag #stfoodtrending.
