Madam Tan Lay Hwa, 70, has eaten lobster in Boston, marvelled at a surreal Gaudi villa in northern Spain and picked the sweetest peaches on a Japanese farm – all within the company of celebrities.
Her favorite was a light-hearted Hokkaido jaunt led in 2010 by tv host Quan Yifeng, who remembered the globetrotter from a tour she had led simply months earlier to the dreamy lakes of Jiuzhaigou in China. Quan hugged the auntie traveller and referred to as out: “Hwa jie!” (Elder sister Hwa.)
