MILAN (REUTERS) – The household of Italian designer Gianni Versace has distanced itself from a long-awaited US tv sequence about his violent dying.
The nine-part sequence, made by 21st Century Fox and premiering subsequent week, stars Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin.
Versace was gunned down in 1997 on the entrance gate of his Miami seaside mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
The Versace company “did not authorise and was not involved in the television series,” it stated in a press release on Monday (Jan eight).
The sequence needed to be thought of “an act of fiction”, it stated, given it drew inspiration from a e book that was not authorised – Maureen Orth’s Vulgar favours.
A spokesman for 21st Century Fox had no instant remark.
Versace based his eponymous style home, well-known for its Medusa head emblem, in 1978. In 2014, US personal fairness agency Blackstone purchased a 20 per cent stake. Gianni’s sister Donatella is inventive director and vice-president of the group.
