Anyone climbing the 860-metre Hornelen mountain in Norway not too long ago might need been puzzled to see a large inflatable Santa perched on the prime. The purpose behind the seasonal customer’s visitor look was right down to a prank between a bunch of mates, who had been challenged to hold him up the mountain by their good good friend, Harry Gulestøl.
The story started when the group of mates had been teasing Harry over his reluctance to brighten his home sufficiently festively for Christmas. They purchased the enormous Santa, named Kalvåg Nissen, and surreptitiously inflated it in his backyard, to his shock. Then, to actual revenge on them, he challenged them to hold Santa up the mountain with out utilizing a sleigh.
Rising to the problem, 4 of the friends hauled Santa to the highest of the mountain, which is located within the Nordfjord area, thought-about to be Europe’s highest sea cliff. They additionally carried a bike battery, a number of air pumps and a Norwegian flag up the slopes. One of the group members, Jan Fredrik Fosse, tells Lonely Planet that whereas the gang of mates like to have enjoyable collectively by pranking and difficult one another, there have been some sensible challenges they needed to think about in relation to the duty.
“One was how to blow up the Santa on the top of Hornelen, 860 metres above sea level,” he says. “The second was to get up on Europe’s tallest sea cliff in the middle of winter, with loads of snow around. All of us have been to Hornelen before, but only Svenn Petter Kjerpeset has been there during winter. The third was shifting weather, as the weather can rapidly change on Hornelen during this time of year. We spent about nine hours on this trip, because we started about 10am and were back from the mountain at 7pm, about four hours after dark, but we considered the challenge to be fun and interesting.”
Kalvåg Nissen was efficiently inflated on prime of the mountain, and he has now been returned to Harry and his spouse, Ann Irene’s, backyard. Rumour has it that Harry has grown fairly keen on the festive addition to his home. You’d suppose they had been quits although, however Jan tells us that this is probably not the tip of the Christmassy story and extra pranks could observe. “My gut tells me that both before New Year and throughout 2018, there will be more fun to come,” he laughs.
