Mr Christopher Tan’s column Orchard Road Revisited (Life, Dec 30) introduced again a lot of recollections for me.
There had been a few nightspots in previous lodges Mr Tan didn’t point out. In Tanglin Road, there was Hotel Malaysia dealing with the roundabout and a membership there referred to as Pub.
Then there was Barbarella on the now-defunct Ming Court Hotel, on the junction of Tanglin Road and Orchard Road.
In Orange Grove Road was the previous Orchard Hotel, recognized for its tea dances.
The band Tania had been excellent at Pebbles Bar on the Singapura Forum Hotel (the place Forum The Shopping Mall at the moment stands). They had been final at Harry’s in Orchard Towers.
In your photograph, the man within the center, the frontman, is named Alban. He now works at a small pub at Ming Arcade referred to as Pat’s Pub, serving drinks.
