This Boston resort has a robotic to help you if you keep

The robots are coming. If you head to Boston’s bustling Seaport District, your is perhaps waited on by one thing aside from a human. Last month, YOTEL Boston added a brand new member to its workers: a robotic named YO2D2, who was constructed by San Jose, California-based company Savioke, which develops and deploys autonomous robots that work in human environments.

YO2D2 is a 36-inch tall Relay robotic programmed to autonomously summon the elevator, navigate crowded areas, dance or ‘shimmy’ to music and greet company within the first ground Club Lounge and rooftop Sky Lounge bar with intelligent messages. Guests can summon YO2D2 by requesting something from snacks to contemporary towels from Mission Control, which is YOTEL converse for the entrance desk. YO2D2 will then zoom its approach as much as every cabin (a.ok.a. visitor room) permitting company to retrieve no matter merchandise they requested from a storage compartment through the robotic’s touchscreen. 

“We don’t just do technology for technology’s sake, it needs to be functional, first and foremost,” says General Manager Chris Hartzell. “Since YO2D2 was introduced, our guests have been fascinated and entertained by the robot, but more importantly, it’s expediting the delivery of linens, extra towels and retail items to their cabins and freeing up our crew to assist guests with anything else they might need.” When YO2D2 isn’t laborious at work, it recharges quietly by the resort’s entrance desk.

YO2D2 isn’t the one robotic within the YOTEL household – there’s additionally YOBOT, the luggage-storing robotic at YOTEL New York, and Yoshi and Yolanda, who make deliveries for YOTEL Singapore.
